SEAN O'REILLY
Sean was awarded the Bar Scholarship in 2022. He joined Chambers upon completion of his pupillage with Mr. Derek Chan SC, Mr. Tony Li SC, Mr. Anthony Chan (now Mr. Anthony Chan SC), Mr. Tony Ko, and Mr. Tim Parker.
Prior to joining Chambers, Sean graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with First Class Honours in his LL.B. degree. He also holds a Master of Laws in Public International Law (Distinction) from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) from the University of Oxford with a prize for Roman Law (Delict). During his studies, Sean was awarded several scholarships and prizes for academic excellence and achievements in mooting competitions.
Before pupillage, Sean also served as a Judicial Assistant at the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal from 2021 to 2022 where he assisted the Judges with legal research on points of law and procedure and other work of the Court generally.
Sean is developing a broad criminal and public law practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work. He is also capable of being instructed in civil proceedings. Recently, he appeared as sole advocate in the High Court and obtained an interlocutory injunction to restrain the commission of the torts of misuse of private information, defamation, and harassment.
Sean is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese and can draft legal documents in both simplified and traditional Chinese. He is also capable of conducting conferences and short hearings in Cantonese and Mandarin.
