In HKSAR v Wu Kwan Shing HCCC 67/2023, Priscilia Lam SC and Ching Him Ho secured an acquittal for the Defendant who was charged with rape.

The prosecution alleged that the Defendant raped a domestic helper in a hotel room in Causeway Bay.  The prosecution relied on admissions allegedly made by the Defendant upon his arrest that he knew she was unwilling to have sex and expressed regret for his actions.  The Defendant challenged, amongst others, that the alleged admissions were not made in the first place, and that the admissions were acknowledged by his signature subsequently only after threats and/or inducement had been exerted on him.

After 2 days of deliberation, the jury delivered a not guilty verdict after a 10-day trial.  The Defendant was immediately released.
